it has nothing at all to do with the drug the trigger is more likely to be the depression.

There have been studies done on SSRI antidepressant effects upon sexual function.
The one described as being the most comprehensive – it looked at pre-drug sexual function, then followed the individuals over several months of on-drug treatment – was in 1997. There were 4 Prozac-like drugs in the study (including Zoloft) and rates of sexual dysfunction were 54-65%.
SSRI antidepressants are known to commonly cause sexual dysfunction. For men, the typical effects are: loss of libido; ejaculation problems; impotence – although there are others, including genital numbness/reduced sensitivity.
Generally, sexual function returns after the drug’s withdrawal. However, there are those for whom this does not hold true, and the dysfunction remains. This is called PSSD, Post SSRI Sexual Dysfunction.
Because it is such an intimate subject, many people are reluctant and embarassed to speak to their doctor about it, but given the vast percentages of people who have their sexual function adversely affected whilst on an SSRI antidepressant, it hopefully wouldn’t be anything they haven’t encountered before.
There is a help group (link below) – they be able to offer you initial advice and information, and perhaps this may reduce the level of embarassment such that a doctor’s appointment may be made?
